Smuin Contemporary Ballet

Dance Series 1

[San Francisco, CA] Smuin Contemporary Ballet‘s 30th Anniversary Season kicks off with two favorites as well as a world premiere.

By audience request, Smuin will revive James Kudelka’s “The Man in Black,” a “searing and emotional piece” set to songs recorded by Johnny Cash. Also back onstage will be Val Caniparoli’s playful “Tutto Eccetto il Lavandino (everything but the kitchen sink).”

Finally, in its season-opening program, the company will present a world premiere by ballet and Broadway choreographer Darrell Grand Moultrie. The piece is set to an original Cuban jazz score by composer Charles Fox.

Smuin presents “Dance Series 1,” Sep. 15 – 16 in Walnut Creek and Sep. 21 – 24 in Mountain View before settling for its San Francisco run Sep. 29 – Oct. 7, 2023.
