Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival
[Becket, MA] Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival is a renowned international dance festival located on a 220-acre campus in western Massachusetts. Founded in 1933 by Ted Shawn, a pioneer of modern dance, the festival is named after the property’s original owner, Jacob Pillow.
The festival is held annually and features a diverse array of dance performances, workshops, and classes, spanning a wide range of styles including ballet, modern dance, contemporary dance, jazz, tap, and more. In addition to the performances, visitors can attend talks, exhibits, and other events related to dance and the performing arts.
The festival showcases both established and emerging artists from around the world. It has also been a launching pad for many careers in dance. Making Jacob’s Pillow debuts this summer are:
- Dutch National Ballet — one of the world’s most critically acclaimed ballet companies.
- Complexions Contemporary Ballet, presenting “STAR DUST,” a one-act tribute to the genre-bending innovation of rock star David Bowie.
- AXIS Dance Company, an acclaimed ensemble of disabled, non-disabled, and neurodiverse performers.
The 2023 Festival features nine weeks of performances in dance styles ranging from hip hop to ballet, a broad welcoming of international artists, performances with live music, and so much more for the entire family to enjoy.
Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival takes place in the Berkshires from Jun 28 – Aug 27, 2023.
