Movement: The Legacy of Kineticism

“Movement: The Legacy of Kineticism” explores the power of art with real or implied motion.

Featuring eighty works drawn from the Dallas Museum or Arts’ permanent collection, the exhibition showcases the work of artists from three historical eras. Each work utilizes optical effects or mechanical or manipulable parts to engage the viewer physically or perceptually.

The exhibition’s curator states, “[‘Movement: The Legacy of Kineticism’] is a celebration of the amazing collection we have at the DMA. It allows me to draw from classic examples of historic modernism, like Mondrian and Malevich, ‘op’ art by Bridget Riley and Alejandro Otero, and immersive contemporary installations, like those by Olafur Eliasson and Valeska Soares.”

Pushing boundaries of artmaking today, the Dallas Museum of Art hopes that this show moves you as much as it moves them.

“Movement: The Legacy of Kineticism” opened Sep. 18, 2022, and will be on view through Jul. 16, 2023.
