Robert Motherwell: Pure Painting
Artsy.net writes, “Alongside Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, and Willem de Kooning, Robert Motherwell is one of the great American Abstract Expressionist painters. His expressive canvases and collages resulted from a profound dedication to automatism, a method of spontaneous creation that attempts to express the inner workings of the human psyche.
“Motherwell’s most famous painting series, ‘Elegies to the Spanish Republic’ — which he worked on for over 40 years — features bold, black shapes against fields of color and patches of white paint.”
“Robert Motherwell: Pure Painting” at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth will be the first presentation in more than a quarter century to fully examine the artist’s mastery.
The exhibition will feature a selection of visually compelling works chosen from throughout the artist’s lengthy and influential career. As he emerged in the New York art world in the early 1940s, abstract-figurative works dominated Motherwell’s first decade of painting. The exhibition will highlight these and the subsequent key series that defined his evolution as a post-WWII artist.
“Robert Motherwell: Pure Painting” will be on view at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth Jun 4-Sep 17, 2023.
In addition to its daytime hours, the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth is open until 8 p.m. on Fridays. This is ideal for those who are unable (or unwilling) to visit museums by day.
#EveryMuseum in America could be open late at least once a month.
