To Hear the Earth Before the End of the World
[Anchorage, AK] “To Hear the Earth Before the End of the World” is a sound journey by interdisciplinary artist LaMont Hamilton.
Listeners within the space are immersed in a soundscape formed by the blending of the Alaska field recordings with archival recordings, digital and electronic sounds and more.
Over the past several years, Hamilton has been collecting biodata from around the world to gain “a ground zero understanding of our changing Earth.”
His field and electromagnetic recordings include the sound of glaciers cracking, the smell of forest fires, the mechanical cacophony of land being razed.
“Music is the healing force of the universe,” he adds.
Indeed.
“To Hear the Earth Before the End of the World” is on view at Anchorage Museum, May 5, 2023, to January, 2024.
In addition to its daytime hours, the Anchorage Museum is open until 9 p.m. on the first Friday of every month.
This is ideal for those who are unable (or unwilling) to visit museums by day.
Every Museum in America could be open late at least once a month.
