Iowa City Book Festival
[Iowa City, IA] For more than 80 years, Iowa City has been teaching the world to write.
It’s true.
The Iowa Writers’ Workshop at the University of Iowa pioneered the teaching of creative writing at the university level. Dozens of creative programs within the university and the city followed, producing more than forty Pulitzer Prize winners.
It’s no wonder that Iowa City has also been designated as a UNESCO City of Literature.
The Iowa City UNESCO City of Literature organization organizes the annual Iowa City Book Festival. Many of the author events and literary programs take place at night … which thrills us to no end.
Guest authors this year include:
- Nathan Hill (“Wellness,” “The Nix”)
- John Irving (“The Last Chairlift,” “The World According to Garp,” “The Cider House Rules”)
- Daniel Kraus (“Whalefall,” “The Shape of Water”)
- Jonathan Lethem (“The Arrest,” “The Feral Detective”)
- Mindy Mejia (“Strike Me Down,” “Everything You Want Me to Be”)
- Joanne Ramos (“The Farm”)
- Justin Torres (“We the Animals,” “Blackouts”)
The Iowa City Book Festival will open your world Oct. 8-15, 2023.
