Hotel Per La and Per L’Ora
Hotel Per La opened in downtown Los Angeles on Sep. 21, 2022, in the former Bank of Italy headquarters.
Built in 1922, the 12-story structure retains ornate features of its original self. Guests will marvel at the marble and plaster façade and the ground floor’s golden-coffered ceiling.
Also nestled within this posh setting is Per L’Ora restaurant.
“Starters include savories on toast, like Spanish mackerel with spicy tomato; chorizo and manchego; and avocado with chile oil and chapulines (the Mexican delicacy grasshopper),” chirps Eater Los Angeles. “From there, Per L’Ora’s primo section continues with a tuna carpaccio, crab cakes, lobster tagliatelle, and bucatini with Spam, egg yolk, and nori.
“Generously-sized main courses include a spatchcocked chicken with aji verde and potatoes, and a bone-in veal milanese with fermented chile vinaigrette.
Leaning into to specificity, LA Downtown News adds, “The culinary team at Per L’Ora is comprised of executive chef Courtney Van Dyke, a third-generation Angeleno who has spent her career leading acclaimed kitchens at the Montage Beverly Hills, Peninsula New York and Four Seasons Beverly Wilshire; director of bars Coleen Morton, who brings mixology and bar experience from neighboring DTLA bars such as the Redwood Bar and Grill, Spring Street Bar and El Dorado; director of wine Rick Arline, who gained experience across several five-star luxury hotels like the Montage Beverly Hills and Hotel Bel-Air; and pastry chef Sohrob Esmaili, previously from New York’s esteemed Jean Georges and Proper Hotel San Francisco.”
