Ruth Asawa Through Line
[New York City, NY] “Ruth Asawa Through Line” is the first show that looks at Ruth Asawa’s artwork by focusing on her drawings that she made throughout her life. While now widely recognized as a sculptor, Asawa practiced drawing daily, referring to the act as her “greatest pleasure and the most difficult.”
The Whitney Museum of American Art and the Menil Collection worked together to organize this exhibition. It helps us see how she used different materials and methods in her art, and it shows how important drawing was for creating her unique style.
In the exhibit, you will see drawings, collages, and paintings, as well as stamped prints, artworks made from thin copper sheets, and sketchbooks. There will be more than a hundred pieces of art from both public and private collections, and many of these have never been shown before.
The Whitney Museum of American Art presents “Ruth Asawa Through Line,” Sep. 16, 2023 – Jan. 15, 2024.
In addition to traditional daytime hours, The Whitney is open until 10 p.m. every Friday. #EveryMuseum in America could be open late at least once a month. Most are not. 24HourNation is grateful for the Whitney and other art, science, and history museums that are mindful of nighttime patrons. Thank you.
