Tokyu Kabukicho Tower

Tokyo nightlife hub welcomes new high-rise complex

NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation) brings to our attention the Tokyu Kabukicho Tower designed by Yuko Nagayama & Associates.

In addition to being Japan’s first skyscraper designed by a woman, the 48-story Tokyu Kabukicho Tower includes:

  • two luxury hotels (Bellustar Tokyo, A Pan Pacific Hotel and Hotel Groove Shinjuku, A ParkRoyal Hotel)
  • a nightclub
  • a theatre
  • a cinema
  • a gaming arcade with a bar
  • a massive food hall
  • retail shops
  • artworks by twenty-six artists

NHK reports that “the capital’s newest architectural addition opened in Kabukicho, a district better known for its rabbit-warren of bars and restaurants than skyscrapers.”

Some refer to Kabukicho as the red-light district of Shinjuku but … you be you.

“With most stores open almost around the clock,” NHK continues. “The aim is to draw on the area’s legendary nighttime economy.”

Legendary indeed.

The Tokyu Kabukicho Tower opened Apr. 14, 2023.
