Nighttime Advocates as Cultural Rights Advocates

24 Minutes Podcast
Season 2, Episode 14
May 27, 2023
Guests: Holly Lester and Boyd Sleator, Co-Founders – Free The Night

Free The Night is a non-profit organization that formed during the pandemic. Its mission is to create a safe, progressive, and culturally rich environment for nightlife in Northern Ireland.

But, in fact, the charity is much more than that. It is also a cultural rights … almost civil rights advocacy organization.

It has to be.

Boyd Sleator, one of Free The Night’s co-founders, has stated, “Freedom of expression is a human right, that includes the right to perform and take part in what you consider your cultural life.

“Governments can impact those rights and, we as global communities advocating for the late-night creative economy must recognize this, not become complacent or compliant, and advocate strategically and ethically.”

Gain a deeper understanding of the nighttime economy as we spend 24 minutes with Free the Night co-founders, Holly Lester and Boyd Sleator.
