The Hours
Virginia Woolf’s novel, “Mrs Dalloway” inspired Michael Cunningham’s novel, “The Hours.”
Cunningham’s novel was then adapted into an Oscar-winning film starring Meryl Streep, Julianne Moore and Nicole Kidman.
Next, the Metropolitan Opera and The Philadelphia Orchestra commissioned Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Kevin Puts to adapt Cunningham’s book and the Paramount Pictures film into an opera.
Now, the Metropolitan Opera presents the world premiere of “The Hours” with a breathtaking lineup of talent.
Soprano Renée Fleming, actor and singer Kelli O’Hara and mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato will portray the opera’s leading characters — Clarissa Vaughan, Laura Brown and Virginia Woolf.
The cast also features mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves, soprano Kathleen Kim, soprano Sylvia D’Eramo, countertenor John Holiday, bass-baritone Kyle Ketelsen, tenor William Burden, tenor Sean Panikkar and bass-baritone Brandon Cedel.
The Metropolitan Opera will present “The Hours,” Nov. 22-Dec. 15, 2022.
