Maybe we just love the story too much.
Pie-lover, and dessert extraordinaire, Derek Kaplan, is a former City of Miami firefighter and Division-I football player.
One day, he began selling his own key lime pies on a Coconut Grove corner.
By 2015, he opened his first brick-and-mortar location in Miami-Dade County. Then a second.
Now, Fireman Derek’s pies, cookies, empanadas, cakes and cheesecakes are available in Broward County at 250 N. Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale.
“Key lime pie is a sentimental favorite and a specialty of the house,” reports WSVN 7News.
But apparently the carrot cake, red velvet cake and cookies-and-cream pie are not to be overlooked, either. Fireman Derek’s goods are made fresh daily to ensure the highest quality product.
Given that Fireman Derek’s other locations are open every night until 10 p.m. or 11 p.m., it’s a pretty good bet that Fort Lauderdalians will be able to extinguish their pie cravings late into the night.
Fireman Derek’s Fort Lauderdale location opens Nov. 12, 2022.
