Journey
Journey introduces theatrical gastronomy to New York City.
The restaurant was created out of the worlds of Broadway, fashion, multimedia and the culinary arts.
The principals sound legit. Tony Award-winning producer Marc Routh (“The Producers,” “Hairspray”). Tony Award-winning director John Rando (“Urinetown,” “On the Town,” “Back to the Future the Musical”). Tony- and Emmy-winning designer David Gallo. Executive Chef Edward Hong. And an entire phalanx of other performers and creatives.
Journey incorporates four unique experiences under one roof:
- Journey 360, where the 360-degree projections transport you from the communal table to five exotic locations for each courses of the prix fixe meal.
- Journey Odyssey, where live and filmed performances bring the diners’ tabletops to life with a comic adventure led by an award-winning Broadway cast.
- Journey Lounge, where mystery and curiosities await as you enjoy a mix of live and filmed entertainment.
- Journey Epic Café, where augmented reality brings the dinner plates to life.
As you might surmise, your dining <ahem> journey blends immersive video installations, fine dining, fashion tech and theatre.
Times Square Chronicle writes, “Have your appetizer in Tokyo, your first course in Venice, and your entrée in Buenos Aires.”
“I had dinner inside a ‘volcano’ at this new immersive restaurant and bar,” Time Out New York added. “On its surface, it may sound like a gimmick, but a deeper dive — actually experiencing it — yields a fun night out with actually good drinks and food.”
We’re not sure we are ready for so much stimulation but, here we go … Journey, a new restaurant, bar and lounge, opened Jan. 27, 2023, near Madison Square Park in Manhattan.
