Hierro (Iron)
[Miami, FL] José Julián Martí Pérez was a 19th century Cuban nationalist, poet, philosopher, essayist, journalist, translator, professor, and publisher. He is considered a Cuban national hero because of his role in the liberation of his country from Spain.
While claimed by both the Left and the Right, the play “Hierro (Iron)” conveys Martí’s story as a full human being — and not as a saint or a martyr.
Written by Cuban-Spanish playwright Carlos Celdrán, the play’s only previous production was in Havana, Cuba.
Performed in Spanish, with simultaneous English translation through a state-of-the art wireless headphone system, ARCA Images presents the U.S. premiere of “Hierro (Iron)” at the Miami-Dade County Auditorium, Jul. 27 – Aug. 6, 2023.
