Water for Elephants

Water for Elephants

[Atlanta, GA] “Water for Elephants” was an atmospheric, gritty, and compelling novel about Jacob, a former veterinary student, who takes a job in a 1930s travelling circus only to fall in love with the ringmaster’s wife.

A movie version of the book debuted in 2011.

Now, based on the critically acclaimed and best-selling novel, Atlanta’s Alliance Theatre presents a stage musical version of the best-selling novel by Sara Gruen. It will lead us on an adventure filled with romance, deception … and a little bit of magic.

The Alliance describes the plot for us.

“When charismatic ringmaster August brings Rosie the elephant on as the new star attraction, Jacob and August’s wife Marlena join forces to train her. As Jacob and Marlena’s shared compassion develops into love, August’s cruel nature surfaces, threatening to derail Jacob’s life once more.”

Directed by Jessica Stone (“Kimberly Akimbo”), with a book by Rick Elice (“Jersey Boys,” “Peter and the Starcatcher”), and a score by the award-winning PigPen Theatre Co., Alliance Theatre stages the world premiere of the musical “Water for Elephants,” Jun. 7 – Jul. 9, 2023.
