Ireland's first Night-Time Economy Forum

Ireland’s First Night-Time Economy Forum

Ireland’s first Night-Time Economy Forum is taking place in Dublin, Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2023.

Run by the Arts Council of Ireland, the free event will take place at the National Gallery of Ireland from 2 p.m. through 5 p.m. GMT. The program will examine emerging trends and initiatives and aims to encourage new partnerships that will support the role of the arts in creating a vibrant night-time economy.

Speakers include:

  • Former Amsterdam Night Mayor Mirik Milan
  • Dublin Fringe Festival CEO Ruth McGowan
  • Actor and comedian Saoirse Smith
  • Professor Terry Stevens
  • Adrienne Rodgers, the director of services of community, culture and placemaking in Cork

The forum follows the news last October that the government would be overhauling centuries-old alcohol licensing laws, meaning nightclubs in Ireland can stay open until 6 a.m. The bill is expected to pass into legislation this year.

“The Night-Time Economy Task Force has set forth an ambitious program that is working to shape and change our cities and towns at night,” said Minister Catherine Martin.

“This forum shines a spotlight on the potential ways in which we can make this happen. I’m looking forward to seeing new and innovative solutions to some of the challenges facing the night economy and some new and interesting partnerships coming out of this event.”

The event is now sold out. However, the Arts Council YouTube channel will stream the Forum. Find the agenda here.
