The Crucible

The Crucible

A teenage girl imagines her future. A marriage is tested. Church bells ring, uniting the community in prayer. These are good people; this could be anywhere. They fear the shadows in the forest, but the real monsters are much closer to home.

Scottish Ballet tells us we will be on the edge of our seats watching this tight-knit society unravel into chaos. Ask yourself: when everything is in balance, what are you prepared to pay for the truth?

Hmmm. Sounds topical.

But, no, following its acclaimed 2019 premiere, sell-out Scottish tour, and a 2022 London run, Scottish Ballet brings “The Crucible” to The Kennedy Center.

“Helen Pickett’s powerful choreography and Peter Salem’s haunting score unleash the emotional force of Arthur Miller’s masterpiece,” writes The Kennedy Center. The venue has specifically chosen its more intimate Eisenhower Theater for this ballet “to maximize the unique atmospheric and visceral aspects of the production.”

The Kennedy Center presents Scottish Ballet’s US East Coast premiere of “The Crucible,” May 24-28, 2023.
