The Sandman

The Sandman

What intrigues us most about Wonderbound is how it does not fall in line with any dance status quo we know.

With often-immerse performances and impressive collaborations with other Denver arts organizations and artists, Wonderbound artistic director Garrett Ammon has crafted bold, contemporary ballets.

This time, Ammon has created “The Sandman” in partnership with Clay Rose. Rose is front man for Boulder’s alt-country group, Gasoline Lollipops. The Gas Pops (as they are called affectionally) have won Colorado Daily’s “Best Local Band” award three times. They are also two-time winners of Denver Westword’s “Best Country Band” award.

Described as a newfangled western, “The Sandman” chronicles the journey of characters ripped from lyrics written by Rose. The dance performance will also feature live music performed by Gasoline Lollipops.

We note that, in October, 2022, The Denver Gazette reported “Wonderbound has cut all ties with social media. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok … all of it.

“Without warning or explanation, Wonderbound took down all of its social-media pages at the end of July, quietly cutting ties with nearly 15,000 combined followers.”

Another bold move.

From the mind of artistic director Garrett Ammon and the music of Clay Rose, the contemporary ballet company Wonderbound presents “The Sandman,” May 3-14, 2023 in Denver.
